The WorkSafe Victorian Country Football League has named two very strong teams to represent Victoria in the Landmark Australian Country Football Championships to be held in Shepparton later this week.

The WorkSafe VCFL who are the current ACFC Champions in both divisions of the Landmark Australian Country Football Championships, will again have two teams in the carnival, a Division One team, made up of players from the 16 Major leagues across the State and a Division Two team which is selected from the District leagues from country Victoria. Division One will see the Vic boys take on Western Australia, South Australia, NSW and ACT while in Division Two will feature an Aboriginal All-Star team, Queensland and the Barooga Sports Club VCFL District side.

Seymour’s Paul Scanlon will lead the WorkSafe VCFL Division One side while Elmore’s Andy Grant will again lead the Barooga Sports Club WorkSafe VCFL District State team in Division Two.

The Landmark Australian Country Football Championships will see Austsralia’s best country footballers available in Shepparton this week and WorkSafe VCFL Division One coach Terry Daniher is confident the team selected will be very competitive. “We have selected a strong team who I think will be very competitive in the Landmark championships. The boys have been very keen at all the training runs so far and although we have lost one of our leaders in Joe McLaren through injury, I think we have a good mix of senior players and young fella’s and the boys will put up a good show” said Daniher

Barooga Sports Club District State Team coach Ron Thomas is also talking up his group. “We have a very dedicated group, keen to work hard and retain the championship title. We have had to make several changes (9) from the team that played the VAFA a few weeks ago but those that have been included have really deserved their opportunity” said Thomas.
