“The First Step on a Tram Is Hell”, the latest work from feminist comedian, writer and performer Sue Ingleton, commences a much-awaited Victorian regional tour this July.

Wrapping up a sell-out season at the 2007 Melbourne International Comedy Festival, this no-holds-barred revelation of ageing and aged care is skillfully manipulated and devastatingly mishandled by Ingleton’s alter egos, Bill Rawlings and Edith Wise. Tales of speed dating for seniors, the pros and cons of prepaid funerals and the perils of the sidewalk emerge from minds that not only wander - but often leave completely!

“Perhaps this piece is my salute to the resilience of old age,” said Ingleton.

“My life and my theatre are inextricably entwined and so the show will, like my life, be chaotic, loose, disturbing, funny, truthful, full of exaggeration and mostly unpredictable!”

Sue Ingleton is one of Australia’s most iconic actors and comedians as well as amassing an extraordinary body of work as a director, writer and teacher including Female of the Species, The Sunday Roast (commissioned by ABCTV for a comedy series pilot), Aunts with Hot Flushes and After You’ve Gone.

Regional Arts Victoria is proudly touring “The First Step on a Tram is Hell” around Victoria with assistance from Arts Victoria. RuffArtZ is bringing this hilarious show to the Ruffy Hall on Sunday 3 of August for a 4 pm matinee performance. Tickets include a complimentary homemade Ruffy afternoon tea at 3.30 pm.
