Last Saturday the East Central district rifle Association marksmen

gathered at Gobur to contest a two times ten shot shoot at 500 yards.

The conditions were icy with dull light a heavily overcast sky and a strong blustery wind from the north, far from ideal conditions. As shooting commenced it was clear that the coaching work done the previous week had paid off. Ron Press the only F class shooter on the

day was straight into the bullseye posting first a 49.3 then a 48.3

for a total of 97.6 the best score for the day. In the Target Rifle competition Neil Broughton lead from the start and was top score with

49.2, 47.4 and a total of 96.6. Wally Gough started well with 48.4

then ran into some very rough weather on his second shoot posting a

46.2 for a total of 94.6. Thanks must go to Wally for the extra

equipment he supplied to tidy up the range before shooting commenced.

Geoff James tried a different rifle on his first range and son proved it was not his best posting 42 then with his first rifle shot a 47.2 and a total of 89.2. Ian Williams and robert Chaffe both shot one range only posting a 48.4 and 46.4 respectively. Norm Linehan did not shoot but assisted Doug Moser in developing his shooting technique and after some preliminary sighting tuning Doug shot a credible 45.3 in target rifle. Next week shooting will be at 300 yards at Gobur, new shooters welcome.
