Avenel Football Netball Club

Under 16s

The girls went into Saturday’s game not sure what to expect as Girgarre went down to Stanhope last week by only 4 goals but we won by 21 goals the last time we played them. As it turned out we were able keep up our winning style by beating them by 36 goals this time.

The girls started the game by breaking Girgarre's first centre pass and continued on in the form for most of the game. Though at times the goalers were finding it hard to get the ball through the ring but to their credit they were able to get the rebounds and kept trying until the ball finally went through. The passes down the court were spot on and so was the backup from each and every one of them.

The second quarter continued on in much of the same fashion, the defenders were doing well to keep Girgarre to only scoring 5 goals for the quarter and the feeding into our ring was great to watch.

During the third quarter the girls had many lapses in concentration with silly passing down the court and into the ring and too much Girgarregling meant that the coach made them set a goal of 60 goals for the whole game and no more than 20 for Girgarre.

The fourth quarter saw the girls return to the form of the first half and knuckled down as they had to score 21 goals and only had room for Girgarre to score 5. Final score was 54 to 18.

C Grade

Another great win for the C grade girls defeating Girgarre 58 – 23! The first half of the game was fairly close but after a few changes were made during half time, the girls were up by 30 goals by the end of the 3rd quarter.

The shooting end consisted of Bree, Hannah Mac and Vanessa who all shot fantastically. Vanessa also ran midcourt and was great backup to the shooters alongside Larissa and Amanda. Amanda and Meredith both did a fantastic job in WD, cutting off their opponents on most centre passes and making some great intercepts.

The defence end consisted of Suzanne, Maddie and Hannah O’Connor, who also played a great game, keeping lots of pressure on the Girgarre shooters. Once again a great game Swannies – lets hope they achieve the same (if not better) result against Murchison in two weeks' time.
