Seniors

What a lovely day for football. Catch the Under 18’s bus at 7.45 am for the trip to Rochester. Nice climate control for 1 and1/4 hrs and we hit our destination to be greeted by a vicious northerly wind and a temperature of 8 degrees and it just got worse for the rest of the day. The ‘white fellas” were in trouble so spare a thought from our mates from the Top End.

What a wonderful start to this game. Rochester kicked with the northerly in the first quarter and kicked 11 goals to our 2, so the pressure was on. Shane Clayton was out injured and as expected it left a hole bigger then an iron ore mine. Roberts was not a 100% fit but to the boys credit we did fight back in the second quarter to kick 8 goals to 5. Lamaro, Jansz, Ruane, Marshall, Grainger and Cunningham did there best but the avalanche of the first quarter was just to much to get back.

Not all is lost as we are still only one game out of the top six given the results of the other games and we have a superior % to the two teams we have above us. So we are still in it and play Tatura at home this Saturday who have yet to win a game.

Goals: Jansz 5 Grainger 5 Bamford 2 Jaques 1 Marshall 1 Roberts 1 and Raune 1

Score Euroa 16/8/104 Rochester 24/9/153

Reserves

After 5 terrific performances over the past month the boys just dropped their bundle in this game. Rochester kicked 4 goals to 1 in the first quarter, 2 goals to 5 in the second because of the wind, 3 goals to 1 in the third and 3 goals to 2 in the last. Not a bad performance by our blokes gut given the past few weeks efforts we should have done a lot better.

We are still in fourth position and right in the hunt for the last few games of the year.

Better players: H. Saville, Meehan, Shiner, Burls, Putamorsi, Kemp.

Score: Euroa 8/5/53 Rochester 12/10/82

Thirds:

For the first time this year Euroa went into a game as favourites, and they didnt let their supporters down. Euroa started well, having all the play in the first quarter, but probably should have been further that 14pts in front at the break.

The back line was well on top, rebounding the ball well. Euroa increased their lead in the second to 21 pts with Cale controlling the ruck giving the on ballers Smith, Ivill and Varley plenty of opportunities. Gleeson, Hobbs and O’Neill continued to present well, with Saville and Hill dangerous around the goals.

The back line kept Rochester scoreless in the third, Morrison, Wright, Berry and Parkinson holding their opponenets out well. Moloney and Ford continued the good work in the ruck while giving Cale a well earned rest.

Euroa had a match winning 61 point lead at the last break, giving the chance for a few positional changes. Usher went forward but couldnt find the big opening, kicking 3 behinds for the quarter. The boys let Rochester win the last quarter but Euroa still ran out 52pt winners in a great team effort.

They now look forward to Tatura next week with 3 wins in a row not out of the question.

Final scores: Euroa 11,12-78, Rochester 4,2-26

Better players: Morrison, Smith, Varley, Wright, Gleeson, Hobbs.

Goal kickers: Hobbs 3, Gleeson 3, Ivill 2, Saville, Hill and O’neill 1 each.
