Strathbogie Tableland Landcare Group:
This is an extract of highlights of the report on the 2008 Landcare forum. This story was called ‘Harmony Dreaming’ by students of Saint Francis Xavier Primary School, Ballarat East:
The story was told by three early-primary school students. They were telling their story to an audience of approximately 80 people and described the progress their school has made in achieving environmentally friendly projects within their campus. Such progress included a vegetable garden and tree planting, indigenous message stick significance, enhancing biodiversity, recycling through to containing natural waste by means of septic tanks in next paddock and care of waterways. Funding was derived through Australia Post and Bi-Lo.
The school children have received several awards recognising their wonderful work and enthusiasm, typified by their great presentation. The audience was blown away when a boy estimated to be five or six years old took the microphone, looked the audience in the eye and announced "NOW, THE CHALLENGES!" and proceeded to wind up a wonderful presentation.
A universal feeling was evident of warmth and admiration for such a young person, although it was tinged with pathos for some, with the knowledge that little Jim and his friends will be working with a very different situation when he is grown up.
Which poses the question: are we giving little Jim’s generation a fair go or are we borrowing from them?

Strathbogie Campus:
Thank you to David Hamilton, who spread the recently delivered soft-fall. Also thank you to David, Ian Millar, Andrew Townsend and Eric Tame for putting concrete on the driveway to prevent erosion.
The following families are on cleaning duty these school holidays: Hamilton (coordinators), Hamill, McDonald, Shenton, Wild.
Our Hockey 7s team will be travelling to Shepparton on Thursday 24 July (the second week of term.)
Skipping training for the ‘Jump Rope for Heart’ fundraiser will also be taking place throughout next term. The Jump-Off day and healthy breakfast will be held late in the term. This will be a perfect opportunity for the children to get fit for the sports.
If your child’s history project is not completed they will be given the first week of Term 3 to complete it (Mrs. Donlen is prepared for this). Some evidence of work will be expected from each child.
Year 6 children have each been given two booklets that are regularly sent to schools. These provide quite a range of information on a number of topics: 'Kidsmart', which is the official Blue Light Kidsmart handbook, and 'Welcome to Secondary School' which is a parent's guide to Victorian Secondary Schools.
Indoor Bowls:
Only 7 players turned up on 2 July.
Winners were Max Allen, Clare Goldsworthy, Harry Green and Lyla Tame.
Lucky numbers went to David Jukes and Clare Goldsworthy.
