Drummond Golf Day

well supported

Mills, Seeber and Saxon last week's winners

by Sticks

A great field of 55 men and 23 ladies played last Saturday in the popular Drummond Golf Day event in ideal weather conditions and on a course that gets better every week.

Club president Robin Weatherald welcomed golfers at the end of play and, along with captain Grant Steers, thanked Drummond Golf for their continued sponsorship and support of Euroa Golf Club.

Excellent trophies were presented to the winners of the day. Visitors competed from Longwood, Avenel and Kooringal Golf Club.

The ladies will hold their Opening day tomorrow, 5 March, and the men are requested to assist the ladies by bringing a plate of sandwiches or cakes.

A working bee was held last Sunday to tidy up the course in preparation for the Autumn Tournament, which commences next Saturday (see draw for each day and tee-off times at the end of these notes.

Don't forget the Club's opening day on 15 March, a Medley 4 ball Stableford event. Also, next Sunday is Captain's/President's Day at Euroa.

Last Wednesday 26 men competed in a Stableford event, which Rod Saxon won with 41 points. Friday night's Chicken Run was won by Keith Seeber with 22 pts, a good round off 12 h/cap.

Drummond Day, saw in Div. 1 Matty Mills, 2 under, score 41 pts to win, and in Div. 2 with 44 pts. Rod Saxon had his second win for the week. There were other good scores recorded, which will keep the handicapper busy for a time.

On Thursday this week 4 or 5 local members will travel to Sanctuary Lakes Golf Course to a charity golf day, run by Brett Saxon, Rod's and Dot's son, in his effort to raise money for "Canteen" - kids living with cancer. There are money tins at Burton Store for this course also, so any spare change please top up those tins, one at the front counter and one at the back door table. At the end of this month Brett will endeavour to do a 162km run, from Keilor to Indented Heads, in 24 hours in his quest to raise money for "Kids living with Cancer". Thanks go to those people who have agreed to support the golf day on Thursday, a big ask with the Autumn Tournament only days away.
