RuffArtZ is proud to present CJ Dennis's 'The Sentimental Bloke' in the Ruffy Hall.

Produced by Petty Traffikers, 'The Sentimental Bloke' is a dynamic theatrical adaptation of a timeless Australian literary classic. Set in the physical framework of an old Vaudeville theatre, the production uses twelve of C J Dennis’s original 14 poems and incorporates silent comedy routines and music into its robust and energetic re-telling of this charming story.

A 1915 work, written in verse, 'The Sentimental Bloke' follows the fortunes of Billo the Bloke, disillusioned with life among the back street gangs of Little Lonsdale Street, swigging beer, playing two-up and "stoushin’ Johns". Life changes when he meets "'is bonza peach" Doreen and they get married, settle down on a berry farm and start a family.

"It was sheer magic…glorious Australian material that is worked so beautifully," said Frank Van Straten, ABC Radio.

"This is a charming production, which captures your interest from the first moment and holds it until the inevitable happy ending," reported Sian Prior, Sunday Age.

Formed in 1997 by Stewart Morritt and Anastasia Malinoff, Petty Traffikers is committed to discover and theatrically re-invent the best works from Australia’s literary canon. Produced works have included 'The Drover’s Wife/Bush Undertaker', 'Ginger Mick at Gallipoli' and 'The Chosen Vessel'. 'The Sentimental Bloke' was first produced by Petty Traffikers in 2000 and premiered in Sorrento. Since then it has had sellout seasons at La Mama and The Gasworks Arts Park and has been awarded Green Room Best Actor Award , 2002 and Drama Victoria Best Production Award , 2002
