Many of the children at St John’s Primary School in Euroa wished they could join in as demolition work began prior to a building extension.
The rear wall of the existing classroom block corridor had to be removed, and the contractors were busily hacking into the interior wall panels, breaking windows and sawing through the framework.
“It certainly sounded as though they were having fun,” commented staff members.
Occasional grunts and shouts of satisfaction could be heard as the walls gave way. The children watched, fascinated, from a safe distance and behind the protective barriers surrounding the site. No doubt they were attracted both by the noise and by the sight of destructiveness that would, in any other situation, have been strongly condemned.
