Merton won its first round one-day match, against St Joseph's on

Saturday at the Merton Cricket Ground.

Batting first, Merton made 4/165, James Octigan top-scoring with 38 alongside Rohan Berriman and James Herridge on 31 a piece and some quick runs from

Stuart Munro on 34 n/o. J McCallum was the best bowler with 2/38.

St Joseph's innings started positively. A hard-hitting 69 from J McCallum had the Merton bowlers on the back foot, but the Merton attack bounced back, led by Andrew Lockhart with 3-17. Tight spells from Luke Savage and James Oates and 2-1 from James Octigan had the visitors all out for 107, a 58-run victory to the home team.

Merton plays Euroa at the M.C.G next Saturday in a one-day match starting at 1pm.
