K Seeber A Grade Champion
K Beaton B Grade Champion
A great day at Violet Town Golf Club last Sunday saw the final of the golf season there.
A very good attendance turned up for golf plus several members' wives for the barbecue that followed, along with presentation of the year's trophies which were numerous thanks to many generous donors. President Garrie Moore and Captain Keith Seeber welcomed all to the Club and thanked all present.
The weather was absolutely perfect and it was a very enjoyable day, the event being Ambrose. Winners on the day were Tony Kingma, Ken Harrison and Linda Combrink with a nett 64. Runners-up were husband and wife team of John and Helen Crilly 67¼ nett. Some excellent golf was played with scores very close overall. N/pins went to: on the 3rd Helen Crilly who got her birdie, 7th Gary Lockwood, 12th Chris McKay. It was great to have young Chris at Violet Town for a game and looks like he may be another new member next season. Ken Harrison enjoyed his day and won N/P on 16th.
Thanks was expressed to Garrie Moore, who, along with Albie Combrink is a superb chef. Also Garrie spent many hours mowing the course, as did Albie. More thanks go to Tony Kingma for preparing the scrapes over the season; captain Keith Seeber, who did a great job over the season controlling the fields and events; Ken Lockwood, handicapper; Linda Combrink, for looking after the clubhouse; Keith Beaton and all who assisted in cleaning up the grounds and at working bees; Albie and Linda Combrink looking after the bar; Tony Kingma (secretary) who scored the eclectic for the year, and "Sticks" for the notes in the Gazette. In fact, all members put in over the golf season - Violet Town is a great club supported 100% by all members.
Everyone enjoyed the great barbecue tea after golf and again Garrie and Albie provided a very good menu of delicious meats to go with the salads etc provided by members. President Garrie and captain Keith presented the trophies for the season's winners, as follows:
A Grade champion K Seeber, B Grade Champion (Mr Wonderful) Keith Beaton. The Lindsay Wade trophy 4 Ball event went to Gary Lockwood and Keith Beaton. The Colbine Cup, Gary Lockwood, the Harry Keig trophy Gary Lockwood, the Albie and Linda Combrink trophy to Gary Lockwood, the Penny Kurban trophy Gary Lockwood and the medal of medallists also to Gary Lockwood. 6 events to Gary who had a fantastic year of golf. The John and Helen Crilly trophy won by (the Lion) himself, John Crilly. The Tony Kingma trophy was won by Tony himself who also won the Eclectic, a great effort from a 13 handicap over the year. Congrats to all trophy winners and we look forward to another great year which commences in March next year.
The club hopes to see several Violet Town members compete at Euroa over the next few months. Members please be sure to attend the Annual General Meeting this Thursday, 15 October at 7.30 pm.
