At the Euroa Friendlies Reserve on Saturday, the local club and reigning Trewin Shield (Section 2) premiers "Juniors Cricket Club" had a first-up win in a one-day game against Warrenbayne.

Warrenbayne won the toss and batted, and Tom Mack made 41 and Tim Ryan 29 in Warrenbayne's respectable 7 for 130 after the 40 overs.

Young "Juniors" medium pacer Nicholas Thomson bowled with great control and captured 3 for 10 off 8 overs.

Nicholas and Gus Varley were the stars for the Juniors, with Gus completing two great run-outs from accurate throws from the outfield. These "direct hits" certainly sparked up the supporters on Dozers Hill.

In Juniors' reply to Warrenbayne's 130, the openers Drew Bowman and Justin Ellis put on a rapid fire 99 for the opening partnership with plenty of boundaries and 5 sixes in total.

Justin was out for 28 and was replaced by the ever-improving Thomas Sherwood who made 28 also. Drew completed a fine knock of 83 before he was out. The Juniors went on to be 3 for 175 after the 40 overs. Best bowler for the visitors was J Thomas with 2 for 18.

It was great to see the number of spectators who supported the local team at the Friendlies Oval. The oval has a new look with the new verandah on the pavilion. This shade will be well utilised as the season progresses.

A good start for the Juniors - next week home against Goorambat-Devenish in another one-dayer. "Juniors" Walker Shield team (Section 3) starts at the Friendlies the following week, in a one-day game.
