Four Violet Town gardeners are opening their gates and inviting you to visit and enjoy their magnificent Spring gardens on Saturday 10 October (Monthly Market day) from 10.30am until 4pm.
Intending visitors can collect a detailed information sheet, including a map, at the Violet Town market or at the entrance to any of the gardens. These include:
• Berkley Park, off Murchison Road, produces quality meat sheep. The house here was built in 2004 and its owner designed and planted a beautiful garden. The plant range, colour and artistry of this talented gardener are on full display and a reward for her skill and mulching. Afternoon tea is available.
• Native Garden, also off Murchison Road. An outstanding, extensive native garden, originally created by David Shiels, contains an enormous array of varieties. Planted in 2001, this garden is now showing great maturity and offers visitors insight into the success of native flora. Plants will be available for sale.
• 10 Tulip Street’s town garden is a delight and a surprise. Vegetables are a feature, grown next to the Honeysuckle Creek as well as new fruit trees. Lawns have been replaced by a water-wise garden and roses. Over the past four years the paths and edges have been improved to maintain the original shape of this lovely, shady garden.
• 17-19 Urmston Street has a beautiful country garden that features mature trees and peaceful, sheltered surrounds for the home. The green spring lawns were recently the setting for wedding photos and visitors will enjoy wandering across them to admiring garden beds in full bloom.
The gardens will be open from 10:30am until 4 pm. A small cost applies, with a discount for entry to all four. There will be a raffle for several garden-related prizes.
All proceeds will go towards the restoration of St Dunstan's Anglican Church in High Street, Violet Town, and everyone is invited to visit this historic church, built in 1879. Services are held every Sunday.
