The vacancy for a Nursery Co-ordinator at the Euroa Arboretum has been filled by the appointment of Rob Hall to the position.
Rob's enthusiasm for the project and place is obvious. He will be working with Sam Strong and the regular volunteers in developing the expanding retail sales area, intensive seed production areas and nursery production of thousands of indigenous tubestock plants destined for revegetation projects throughout the Goulburn Broken Catchment.
Rob has an extensive background in nursery management, retail sales, education and natural resource management. He is keen to meet visitors and inspire them in learning more about the Arboretum, native plants and gardening and works Thursdays and Fridays. One project over the forthcoming propagation season is to supply the bushfire affected areas of the catchment with plants for landholders wishing to reintroduce species badly affected by the fires.
The grounds at the Arboretum feature a vast array of species that can provide visitors an idea of growth habit and their landscape context. Currently there are many of the hardy ‘egg-and-bacon’ pea shrubs, stunning nodding blue lilies, Austral indigos, and the spires of the grass tree flowering, and are well worth looking at over the next few weeks.
Friends of the Arboretum were busy weeding these areas on Saturday morning, so that the central display beds now can be really appreciated. Landholders wishing to plant native trees and shrubs next year need to order this month to secure the species mix and quantities. Sam and Rob can assist in compiling orders to complement existing vegetation and climatic conditions. For orders and enquiries, email Sam at strong_sam@activ8.net.au, or call 0429 127 399.
